Dr. Marcus Brumfield is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Tougaloo College and an Associate at the Tougaloo College Research and Development Foundation (TCRDF). He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Education and an M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from Mississippi State University. Dr. Brumfield is also a proud alumnus of Tougaloo College, where he earned his B.S. in Computer Science. He brings extensive professional and academic experience to his role.
Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Brumfield worked as an Enterprise Database Administrator and Applications Administrator at Mississippi State University, where he supported the institution's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. In this capacity, he upgraded and deployed Oracle databases, developed software applications, integrated enterprise solutions, and managed database access, further enhancing his expertise in information technology (IT) and software development.
Dr. Brumfield is interested in research in STEM education, data science, and cybersecurity. His past projects include software bug prediction using machine learning, quantitative evaluations of engineering-focused summer bridge programs, and applying natural language processing in STEM education and cybersecurity.
Beyond his research, Dr. Brumfield is passionate about cybersecurity and data science. He holds CompTIA Security+ and ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) certifications. Dr. Brumfield is committed to mentoring and training the next generation of computer science and cybersecurity professionals.
